Unlearn Comfort Eating in Matlock.
We live in “fat times’, and what I mean by that is for most people it is easier to be overweight than it is to be slim.
It doesn’t have to be like that, you can change, it’s within your gift.
It’s a sad fact that people who find it easier to be slim are becoming a minority – a large minority that.
There are 2 things that on there own may not cause a population at large to get fat. However – put them together and the obesity epidemic takes off exponentially.
We are now living in that time of exponential growth – in terms of population’s weight and individuals waist size, almost two thirds of the population in UK is Obese and the health risks associated with obesity are horrendous, in many cases life threatening. Are you dying for more food?
One reason is down to you, but you need to know what it is before you can change it. When you make that change, you join the ranks of the slim.
Which person are you going to be? Stay the same or change?
Comfort Eating.
If you comfort eat I wonder if you realise you have probably learnt to do it, unconsciously.
Since then I see it everywhere. Children are given food to keep them quiet while they’re out somewhere maybe at the doctor’s surgery or even the dentist or promised food afterwards if they behave.
You’ll know very well that many supermarkets and shops always have sweets at the check out counter.
As children we were sometimes given food to remove the trauma after hurting ourselves. To relieve the boredom of going somewhere boring or horrible, for instance the back of the car on a long journey.
As a reward for being good – maybe the treat of a dessert or some sweets if we ate all our tea, the clean plate club.!
Using Food For Comfort
There are very few of us who are not using food for comfort in our adult lives in some way or other.
Some people have switched from soothing physical pain to soothing emotional pain, many more use food to relive boredom, as a punishment or as a reward.
I’ve little doubt that this has been going on for generations, I,remember my Mother doing it for me and we did for our children.
But it’s different today because of the environment in which we live. Eating habits have changed, fast food is available 24/7, often both parents work, so the fast food option becomes attractive………saves time.
The other huge problem is the type of ‘food’ available. Refined carbs and sugar aren’t normal things for a human beings to eat, which is why they cause so many problems – addiction being one giving much concern, especially although not exclusively to sugar.
The vast majority of us are using food for comfort in an environment that supports obesity. Is it any wonder so many people struggle with their weight when the perfect recipe of convenience creates problems potentially.
The good news is if you’ve learnt to love certain foods or sweets you can unlearn and be slim in the ‘fat environment’ in which we live. Your slim mind-set. Anyone can do this, you just have to take the first step – decide you’re going to change (and stop kidding yourself, a healthy diet and smaller portions is the answer).
